Fort Worth Hotels and Travel Guide

For years mentioned only alongside Dallas, Fort Worth is now breaking out on its own as the place where the West begins. While this "Cowtown" has kept much of its cowboy heritage, it has also attracted industry and culture, with world class attractions, shopping, dining, and nightlife. Despite the large population, visitors receive a friendly, small-town welcome. Come experience all that Fort Worth has to offer!

Fort Worth has a broad, vibrant local economy, and hosts the headquarters of four Fortune 500 companies.  These industry leaders are AMR Corporation, parent to American Airlines, Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corporation, homebuilder D.R. Horton Inc. and electronics innovator RadioShack Corporation.

Aerospace giant Lockheed Martin is building the F-35 for the U.S. military in Fort Worth.  This short takeoff/vertical landing aircraft has some of the most modern avionics used on any aircraft worldwide.

Two major federal agencies, the United States Bureau of Engraving and Printing and the Army Corps of Engineers, have offices in Fort Worth.

The Bureau of Engraving and Printing Western Facility operates a branch that includes a visitor center and guided tours.  Visitors can witness the creation of millions of dollars as they walk through an enclosed walkway.  The facility also offers several historical exhibits.

The Army Corps of Engineers has over 34,000 civilian and enlisted members who provide services to customers in nearly 100 countries.  Its recent endeavors have included improving hurricane relief infrastructure and cleaning wildlife areas affected by hazardous materials.

Fort Worth offers much to the vacationer.  Reminiscent of the days of the huge cattle drives is the Stockyards Station.  Whether you take the historic walking tour, see the twice daily “cattle drive” or just enjoy a tasty meal, Stockyards Station is a terrific place to visit.

For those who enjoy life in the fast lane, Texas Motor Speedway hosts a variety of NASCAR and other similar events through most of the year.  And don’t just leave the driving to the professionals; the Speedway has several driving school affiliates who can put you behind the wheel of a racecar on the track.

If a slightly slower paced attraction is more your style, the Fort Worth Zoo, the oldest zoo in Texas, is an ideal spot for the whole family.  The kids will love the petting corral and interactive jungle barn.  With twelve permanent exhibit areas and two theaters, the Fort Worth Zoo is definitely worth a day trip.

Fort Worth has a lot to offer golfers.  Hidden Creek Golf Course, south of town, offers an exciting golf course at reasonable rates.  Golfers staying to the north will enjoy Fossil Creek Golf Course.  This elegant course was named number five on Avid Golfer Magazine’s 2008 list of Best Overall Golf Clubs in the Dallas / Fort Worth area.

For a great Fort Worth hotel, any of Extended Stay Hotels’ five great hotels is a terrific choice.
